- Chloe: "Explain it to me like I'm five." Zia (getting dressed in her bedroom): "It's a Khazovian portal to a pocket dimension, probably along the 9th or 10th vector-space."
- Chloe (irritably): "I said 'five', not 'fifty-five.'"
- Zia: "There's another world on the other side of that thing, probably like all the other portals. But it's all empty space. The 'energy' that's bleeding into our world and turning us into these things is missing there, so we're human on that side."
- Chloe. Zia. Portal. Chloe (back at the portal, pointing at it): "And why's it in our linen closet?" Zia (grinning): "Because I always wash my linens with extra fabric softener, duh. What portal wouldn't want to cuddle up against that 600-thread-count Egyptian cotton?"
