- Chloe (on phone): "Oh, uh, hi." "I — yeah. Sure. I can — right, I can do that." "Uh huh. Where?" "Yeah, I know the place." "Right. See you soon. Bye."
- Chloe stares at the phone. Zia: "What was that all about?"
- Chloe: "That was my sister, Lynne. She wants to meet for lunch." Zia: "You look so enthusiastic about it." Chloe: "We had a big falling-out a couple years ago."
- Zia: "I'm sure it'll be fine. She's family." Chloe: "How often do you have lunch with your family?"
- Zia (goes back to her video game): "Every fifth Sunday in February on alternate leap years, when Mars is in retrograde and the moon is full." Chloe: "That's what I thought."

Family: The friends you don't get to choose whether or not you want to have.
Fun fact — I actually tried calculating out the schedule Zia described, and I couldn't find a fifth Sunday in February with a full moon between 1600 and 2400 AD — much less on alternate leap years when Mars is in retrograde. (I found a few with new moons, but no full moons at all!) I'm sure it must happen eventually, but I searched a full 800-year range and didn't find a single instance of it 😁
